Tim McGuirk, Guitar
Tim has been a professional musician for the past 25 years, playing in many classic rock and tribute acts throughout Ontario and Quebec. Tim picked up the guitar at age 7, however it was not until he heard the British blues guitarists Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck that he became infatuated with the sound of electric blues. Everything changed for Tim when he heard Led Zeppelin's take on the Willie Dixon number You Shook Me. “You couldn't pry that guitar from my hands; I wanted to sound like that!"
Tim became a bit fed up with the rock scene at that time (c.2000) and decided to shake things up a bit. He felt he needed a new perspective, a new direction. Tim returned to university and received his degree in music, majoring in classical guitar. Immediately following graduation he returned to the stage and found that some things never change: most of all the repertoire. Tim didn’t want to play the same old tunes; he was looking for something different and that is where The Great Unwashed comes in. “Each of the five individuals in this band bring different ingredients to the mix. It's all here: funk, R&B and rock. No matter what material we choose to play, it comes across in ways that sound as diverse as the members of the band. It grooves!"
