Brett Galliford, Drums
ABBA’s “Arrival” and The Bee Gees’ “Here At Last… Bee Gees… Live” on 8 track would seem an unfortunate start to anyone’s musical beginnings. At four years old you don’t choose what your parents listen to. Is it strange that all three boys would grow up to play an instrument? Brett’s Nana gifted him with Kiss’ “Love Gun” on his sixth birthday and the universe revealed some truths:
-
Vinyl is good.
-
Scantily clad, seemingly hypnotized women reclining at the feet of the band for no apparent reason is good. (See “Love Gun” album cover). -
Drums are good.
-
Playing drums along to favorite albums is good.
-
Playing drums with other musicians is good.
-
Playing drums with musicians so people will get up and shake their ass bone off is very good.
From earnest indie drummer in such west coast “shoe-gazing” bands as Conrad and Pender to “shut up and dance” co-conspirator in Kingston’s The Great Unwashed, Brett remains in awe of the drum kit and the power it holds to make a difference in the world.
ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”: never underestimate a song that starts with the chorus.
